GP Access

Overview

GP Access (Evening and Weekend appointments available)

Increasing the availability of GP appointments at evenings and weekends will improve access to GP services, especially for those in work, to ensure that everyone is able to access a GP when they need to.

The GP Access campaign materials are proposed to support the implementation of extended hours GP appointments by increasing the awareness of patients of the availability of appointments in evenings and at weekends and how to book them. This will help ensure the successful introduction of extended hours to improve access to GP services for routine appointments.

The campaign will also help reduce pressures on other NHS services, particularly urgent and emergency care services, as patients that are unable to get a GP appointment, especially when they need an urgent same day appointment, often attend urgent and emergency care services.
